Under 7's gain valuable tournament experience

Rossendale under 7's can take many positive signs for development out of the tournament with a creditable win, draw and just one loss.

First match up was against a hard running Warrington side. There was strong support from the under 8 squad and the opening exchanges were fairly even, with the teams trading scores in the first half. Charlie Leah was on hand to receive from Jamie Boxall to open the Rossendale account, and later tries were added by Tyler Lusty and young Bailey Marshall .
Rossendale were unfortunate not to score on 2 other occasions where scores were wiped out by the narrowest of margins. Playing in their first tournament, Henry Nuttall, Lucas Torbica and Elijah Jones all contributed strong defensive and support work for the team, and twins Marcus and Oliver Yates, along with Sam Ludlam and the ever running perpetual motion in Cameron Grady, added further support and dogged tagging work.
The second match was clearly the highlight and earns its own separate account, but to sum up we won 6-5 against a strong and much fancied host opposition.
Sadly,in similar fashion to the under 8 experience, lunch proved to be an untimely interruption to momentum and the final game against a very strong Sefton side proved to be an anti climax with a 2-9 reverse.

Sefton ended up winning the Plate, the Vale of Lune - whom we defeated - were cup runners up, however perhaps the most encouraging fact to emerge is that Warrington, whom we played in that first 3-5 reverse, we're actually winners of the cup.
So I think it's fair to say we competed against 3 very good teams , beat one and held our own with the eventual winners. That's a great show for a relatively inexperienced group and shows we have very encouraging foundation s to take forward. Charlie Leah was the player of the tournament for Rossendale , with Bailey Marshall runner up.
