Rossendale under 9s tasted defeat against a better stronger and more streetwise Tyldesley unit in a bruising encounter which provided valuable lessons

Spring has officially sprung - a pleasant morning for an away trip at Tyldesley making up for one of the previous 9 cancellations in the season. We played 2 matches against a talented and canny side, well drilled and organised, and also strong and physical.
For the first time we found ourselves very much on the back foot and it was a test of the team's resolve to stick with it and get stuck in. Tyldesley were keen , determined and direct from the off, and both ripped the ball and worked the rucks very aggressively, and with a more " streetwise" approach than Rossendale. There were 2 very tough encounters, the summary is that we came second each time, 1-3 and 1-6 , however there were a number of positive and spirited, and at times brave performances to come from both games and individuals certainly tested themselves at new levels today.
There were also a number of knocks and even a couple of off the ball skirmishes , and it was good to see the Rossendale lads not taking a step back but standing up to be counted.
Man of the match was Rowan Tweedale, if ever there was a day for the Rowanator it was today but we could have done with 5 of him at times - yet we saw several examples of Rowan clearing multiple opponents from the ruck. Tackle heroes today were Jamie Boxall and Tyler Lusty , although a couple of others stood up to the plate too and are starting to improve this part of the game.
Overall it was the tackling where we really need to improve, too many times we allowed Tyldesley to hit their straps, at that point very hard to bring down, despite the bravery of Ben Barnes who continues to shine at full back.
Tries were scored by Ieuan Bissell and a brilliant solo run from Tyler Lusty to cap a fine performance and good day for him, but overall it was a day of learning , experience and understanding more about this game .
No cause for panic, lots of positives still to take, fact is that Tyldesley played better rugby and were a better team on the day.
I'm sure the team is looking forward to getting back in the saddle as soon as possible for the next opponents .......Burnley next up in 2 weeks time. Don't miss it !
