U9: Rossendale v Burnley
Rossendale’s U9s welcomed local rivals, Burnley, to the Pits. Two games of 10 minutes a half were played. Burnley brought a well-drilled squad of eight players for the contest. Rossendale rotated their squad of 13 players over the four halves.
Burnley were strong competitors. They displayed real eagerness to close down Rossendale’s attacks and displayed physical strength and skill going forward.
Rossendale crossed the try line six times in the first game. It was great to see a long list of try scorers. Allistair, Finn, Fyn and Joe all crossed to register a single score and Luke went over the line twice. Rossendale’s six tries were three short of the number scored by Burnley.
Burnley won the second game, scoring eight tries to Rossendale’s three. However, this was a game of two halves with Rossendale matching Burnley three tries to three in the second half. Huey, Luke and Gavin all crossing the try line.
Rossendale displayed a good squad performance over the two games where every player made a positive contribution. Notable moments included: James’ tackle on Burnley’s biggest player; Jessica’s forward run; Luke’s powerful display in defence and attack; Fyn’s speed in attack; Finn emerging from beneath a pile of Burnley players having crossed the try line and Huey’s strength to get across the try line after defiant Burnley defence.
Emotions ran high across both teams. It was excellent to see the Rossendale players channelling this emotion into controlled physicality during the game.
We are proud of your performance today U9s!

Rossendale U9s: Allistair, Archie, Ben, Finn, Fyn, Gavin, Huey, James, Jessica, Joe, Luke, Sam and Tom.
