Great weather, great rugby

Sunday 6 March 2016
Rossendale U9s away at Vale of Lune
U9 Players: Allistair, Archie, Daniel, Fyn, Huey, James, Kieran, Luke, Sam and Thomas.

Vale of Lune hosted Rossendale’s Under 9s. Penrith U9s also made the journey and the good player turnout, despite it being Mothering Sunday, allowed four teams to be fielded as follows: Vale of Lune, Penrith, a barbarians team made up of Vale of Lune & Penrith players and Rossendale.
Rossendale had three close and competitive matches. Coach Dave was particularly pleased with the progression of improvement that the players showed over the course of the three matches. All players had made tackles by the last match and the improvement in the passing and support play was great to witness.

U9 Match 1: Penrith v Rossendale
Sam, Fyn and Kieran all scored tries in the first half which was all square at the break. Luke came on at half time and added two tries for Rossendale in reply to a single score from Penrith.
Half time: 3 – 3
Full time: 4 - 5

U9 Match 2: Vale of Lune v Rossendale
Fyn, Luke and Kieran all scored tries in the first half with Vale of Lune getting a single score in reply. Vale of Lune started the second half with a try straight from the re-start and added a total of three tries. Luke put in a powerful second half display and added a further two tries for the Dale.
Half time: 1 – 3
Full time: 4 - 5

U9 Match 3: Vale of Lune and Penrith Barbarians v Rossendale
An invigorated Dan took to the field and crossed the line three times in the first half. Huey took advantage of a loose ball to add a fourth. The Barbarians scored twice in reply. The second half saw Kieran cross the try line, and the champagne moment came when Archie powered his way over the try line and touched down for a score in front of the Rossendale supporters. Archie’s try complemented an earlier tackle that he’d made in the second half to impose his contribution on the game.
Half time: 2 – 4
Full time: 4 - 6
