Pop-Up Practise

You have heard of 'The Thriller in Manilla', 'The Rumble In The Jungle' and now the U10's Sunday brought 'The Spark in Whittaker Park'......,

Given the inclement weather it has been impossible to use the facilities at the club and as such we decided to run a NON-TRAINING, 'pop-up’, practise in the park. I must say I would have liked to have shared the look on Hugo's mums face when we walked in the house from training, did she expect we'd come home clean and dry....? It was quite a wet and muddy session. I think I have seen cleaner SAS recruits than the state of the boys after the session. Jet Wash anyone?

The session started quite gently with a round of pelting snowballs at each other and kicking Rugby Balls up the air and then some more formal spot kick practise using an abandoned traffic cone.

Once the final few players joined we 'fairly' split the teams between Dads and Lads, oh and Damus joined the Dad's in case you were wondering. This soon heated up in to a grudge match with some very physical play which at times struggled to stay within Queensberry Rules. The passing, tackling, supporting play, rucking and vision of the lads was fantastic and they really demonstrated the ability to pass on to the player, rather than to them which was more than could be said of the Dads.

In the end, even the brilliant match play from the lads, couldn't overcome the experience and skill of the dads and the score line 298-3 speaks for itself. Well Done boys!

Seriously thanks to the coaches, parents and players joining in the bit of fun Sunday in the wet and cold - Looking forward to getting serious again at the club or away at a match.
