Rugby - At Last!

When we finally settled down to a pitch we could use......, the boys looked very keen to get a Match game of rugby under way.

Bury brought a good sized squad and with a great turn out also from Rossendale, we decided to play 2 games…., with a good breather for the children and the officials (and parents) in between games.

The game started with a bang, literally from the whistle both sides sprung in to action and the game was well and truly under way with a great break forward by the Bury offensive and some great tackles from the Rossendale defensive (huddle). The first half had some terrific action and Bury made every bit of use of their powerhouse players, but some good chances and break trough’s in the Bury defence afforded Rossendale some good try scoring opportunities which Rossendale capitalised upon. The second half, and adding 10 pounds of mud to each player, was a similar reflection of the first half, some great action from both sides and Rossendale just having the edge on the breakthrough opportunities. Some tired legs were rewarded with a handful of tries for Rossendale and a confidence boosting and well deserved try back for Bury.

The second game started lively again but both teams were learning the opposition plays and the game again was action packed and even given the weather and the pitch conditions both teams put on a brave and energetic performance right to the final whistle. The highlight moment of the second game in must be pointed out was Fraser with an inspired interception and a glorious flying try scored (right in front of his Dad) which part of a great team effort secured Rossendale a second game win and overall win for the day. Bury also found the try line in the second game with some excellent footwork through and around our defensive lines.

In summary the scores don’t really reflect the action on the pitch, the hard work form both teams was really good to see from a parent and coach perspective. Both Bury and Rossendale worked hard in the match and it was great to see them all in action. Well done all.

Looking forward to the next game.
