Rossendale 10 - Blackburn 30

Rossendale weather nearly cancelled this fixture but thanks to Blackburn we switched the fixture and the game was on. Thanks to all the parents for changing their plans and allowing the game to go ahead and special thanks to Andy and Blackburn for being gracious hosts again.
Despite not having home advantage Rossendale played with great spirit from the very start and put a lot of pressure on the Blackburn defence. However in the first match Rossendale lost 4-2 despite some excellent tackling.

Rossendale’s tackling was good in parts however there were too many high tackles and too much shirt pulling. Great to see some new faces getting stuck in and a blinding tackle by Nathan deserves special mention who also made some good runs and was most improved player.
Rucking and mauling was very lapse today and Rossendale Under10’s need to focus on this area of our game. We have some great running backs who need ball. When they got it there were some great runs especially when Olly put Johnny in for a try in the corner before also scoring himself.

We did win ball in good areas of the park and a special mention to George Allen who led by example and despite getting a fat lip led a great line and was deservedly man of the match with Olly and Shaun a close second.

Our scrum was superb today (which was acknowledged by the Blackburn coaches) as we drove them off many scrums….. a definite advantage. The line outs were on par with Blackburn and our determination in this area was great to see.

Despite losing the second game 2-0 the pressure we put on Blackburn was immense and our fitness levels were very high the training is definitely helping ….keep it up !
Great to hear the lads shout out the Rossendale name before and after the game we have a great spirit, a great team and a really supportive set of parents.
