Rossendale 15 Widnes 50

A great day for Rugby today with the weather and pitches behaving themselves for a change.
We welcomed the biggest team of the season Widnes and glad to have them. It was definitely a case of David & Goliath as our lads had a definite size dis-advantage.
The first honours went to Widnes who charged through with missed tackles from Rossendale. However heads did not go down and the lads did well to stay in contention and compete for the ball.
Our tackling also improved and there were some much better tackles as the game went on.
Tackle of the day has to go to Derek who showed everyone what courage and determination he has.
New lad Jordan made his debut and took his chance well showing good strength and an excellent tackle count....
Tackling the big lads is good practice and great to see Callum get on the tackling count after putting his coach on his backside a few times in practice. He also scored a great try and showed off his pace. Fitness levels were good but still room for improvement. Please do try and make midweek training it makes a big difference.
The scrum really struggled today against a big pack but Shaun led it well and we still managed to win some of our own ball and even one of Widnes's.
George captained the team and led by example tackling and securing good ball plus scoring two very hard fought tries right up the middle. He was joint man of the match with Callum WELL done Callum and George.
Plenty to work on especially our rucking where we were definitely second place.
However Rossendale continue to make progress and learn... none more than Jude who despite his trip showed how he can tackle and ruck ... WELL done Jude!!
Widnes continued to score some very direct tries and were on course to bury the Rossendale lads however we never gave up.
Thanks again to Widnes for making the journey and making it a very memorable day even though we were beaten !
