Bury took an early lead through a well worked try the length of the field. Rossendale worked hard through their forwards to hit back immediately with Jack Whittaker finishing in the corner after beating several Bury players.
Rossendale soon found themselves two tries behind, but this spurned Rossendale on. Captain Sam Ashworth led by example, making several strong runs, causing havoc in the Bury defence, and was rewarded by two fine tries bringing the game level. With only minutes remaining in the first half Jo Bedlow was introduced to the game and had an immediate impact, touching down in the corner after beating a handful of Bury defenders after a strong run from the halfway. This gave Rossendale a slender half time lead.
The second half saw some committed exhilarating rugby from both sides. Rossendale made good yards, with Tyler Johnson and Sam Ashworth all showing great strength in running direct at the Bury defence. The game moved end to end with the teams evenly matched and during this period Bury scored two tries with a solitary response from Rossendale through the quick and artful running of Jo Bedlow. With the game now level and only minutes to go, defences were resolute and neither side was willing to give an inch. It was only after a well worked try from Bury that Rossendale were denied a share of the spoils which would have been just reward for some excellent rugby. The Man of the Match award this week goes to the Captain Sam Ashworth for his all round commitment and attitude in terrible conditions. Well done Sam.
