50 teams from all over Lancashire travelled up to Lancaster to compete in the Rugby Festival held at the Vale of Lune Rugby Club. The well organised event saw teams competing in the under 10's, 11's & 12's and Rossendale Rugby Club fielded teams in all 3 categories.
The under 10's tournament consisted of 4 leagues each with 5 teams with the winner & runner up of each league going forward into the knock out stages.
They played against Sefton, Southport Black, Preston Fireflies & Lymm. Each match proved a real test for the under 10's and Rossendale had to rely on fierce tackling particularly from Nuri Stoner, Joe Bedlow & Ieuan Dwyfor-Jones to protect their try line.
However, in all 4 encounters their opponents were sufficiently well drilled to work through the phases and eventually breakdown the gallant Rossendale defence. Oliver Leah & Josh Beeken worked hard to penetrate their adversaries line but the Dale were unlucky not to record any trys, perhaps the closest effort coming from Ieuan Dwyfor-Jones who was brought down with a high tackle just short of the try line.
On this occasion the under 10's were not able to progress to the knock out stages but the match experience will have been invaluable for all the boys. Every single player should be proud of their part in the tournament, and take the time to look back at where the other teams we played were better than us, and work on those areas, so that, going forward, we can compete against the best teams in Lancashire.
Lymm who were in the same group as Rossendale were the winning finalists in the under 10's.
