The Rossendale u14’s players and parents enjoyed a great day out at the Aldwinians rugby tournament hosted at the Manchester club on Sunday.

The lads started the day off well with a superb 7- 0 victory over Bury based upon a platform built through the efforts of the forwards. A superb try by Sam Lowthion was converted by Sam Bedlow.

The Dale lads conceded an early try against their second opponents Tarleton. They were rocked further by a tournament ending injury to Joe Andrews following a wonderful run that resulted in a rather harshly disallowed try. A further late try from Tarleton scuppered the Rossendale teams comeback.

In the third match a depleted team came up against Didsbury. Tries by Sam Lowthion ,Ben Clough and two by Harry Clark to cap a strong tournament for himself with Sam Bedlow converting all but one of the tries gave a final score of 26-0 to Dale.

In the last match an even more depleted Rossendale side came up against the eventual tournament winners Ormskirk. Despite going behind by 3 tries the lads never gave in and scored a consolation effort by Sam Lowthion again converted by Sam Bedlow. Duncan Fisher made some impressive runs and Mason Wells worked tirelessly throughout.

The lads had praise heaped on them from all quarters on the day for their effort and commitment and narrowly missed out on a Plate final spot . Every player contributed to what the team achieved and as a result the whole squad who attended takes the man of the match award
