On a beautiful autumn morning the U14's were left wondering what might have been against home side Warrington.
Make no mistake this was always going to be a tough fixture for us but we were so slow to get out of bed!
Several times in the first half it seemed our game plan was going to click into place only for the ball to be turned over, or penalised and a sweeping move from the home team resulting in a try against us. But, showing good character, the boys' heads didn't drop and held onto a four try deficit at half time. Sadly though the inevitable happened and we gave the fixture to them by the Cup six try margin.
Neither side stopped playing though, the Warrington lads didn't ease off, they didn't stop needing tackling, they didn't stop not liking our pressure but suddenly things started to happen for Rossendale. A forward drive here, a missed tackle the other way there, a kick through and all of a sudden we had three tries to our name and prevented a whitewash. Why so late? What do we have to do to get going? Someone must know but this could have been a lot tighter score line.
Thanks to Warrington for hosting and being a very sporting, fair team. Also to Gary from Merseyside refs who expertly guided the game and provided some good feedback at the end which we must take forward. Also, as always, to parents for their support.
