First Team Pitch, First Game of 15 a side rugby, Second rate performance

In parts the game was good, in fact some were brilliant, but and awful lot was just not good enough.

We started of brightly from the kick off with two phases of play to put Ashton under early pressure but to be honest if we had been more patient and turned this into three or four phases we would have scored.

Early exchanges were even but Ashton were the first to score with a sixty meter run by one player who should of been tackled about four times. In the early exchanges Kieron Pearson, George Allen and Quinn Smethurst were ever present.

After the first 12 minutes of play we found ourselves 7-0 down and Ashton who had only once been out of there half once to score thier converted try.

One of the positives we did not let Ashton build up any phases with Oliver Molloy meeting his opposite number head on every time he got the ball.

The second period we gave more of the new lads games and won the second period by 12 points to 5 with our scrum starting to make good use of winning ball at will i am unsure of the total of balls we won against the feed but i know it was most of the scrums. This period again with plkenty of ball kept Ashton pinned back and tries came from Joe Simpson and Oliver Molloy. But again let Ashton back in the gamne with a sixty meter break through try

Third period saw us again with all the territory although not quite as dominant as in the earlier two games we still found it difficult to get any continuity. The best moment for the match came for me with a lot of spectators not even seeing the quick thinking play from Gearge Allan and Oliver Molloy produced the second of his tries. Oliver Molloy take a bow the line that you took to score your final try and the depth that you ran from was brilliant and Senior player in this club would have been proud of them selves.

So all in all it was a game it wasn't pretty, it wasn't great but it will give us a starting point to work on and with two of probably our hardest games of the season to come over the next few weeks will test our metal into the first game in the Blacksticks.

Congratulations to Ashton
