Another sunny Sunday, another cup semi final, although this time a different outcome.

Following last weeks exit from the lancs colts cup, Rossendale went one better and progressed to the final of the League Cup. The none arrival of the match official delayed the start. Despite this Rossendale started well although Chester continually stretched them with their backs spinning the ball wide and their fly half kicking for the corners. It was late in the half when Rossendale opened the scoring with centre Tom Bedlow showing all his undoubted strength to break through the Chester backline. Will Sharratt converted. Rossendale had the edge and would have increased their lead if their forwards could guarantee a regular supply of clean ball. When they did the backs looked threatening. A foray into the Chester twenty two saw Rossendale with options either left or right. After having no luck going right, the ball was quickly transferred to the left wing where junior colt Kane Bevan finished off the move and increased Dale’s lead. Captain Sharratt narrowly missed the conversion hitting the upright. A riposte by Chester saw them score an unconverted try. A well struck penalty by Sharratt gave the visitors more breathing space as the game entered its final quarter. A final surge by Chester ended with a bone crushing tackle from Rossendale full back Sam Lowthian, which signalled that Dale were not going to be denied their place in the final where they will meet Lymm on April 29th at the neutral venue of Eccles.
