The competition staged at Fleetwood, pitched the top four teams from the North West against their counter parts from Cumbria, the North East and Yorkshire. On the back of last weeks success the valley side started strongly in the face of a blustery wind. They dominated possession for the whole half and were disappointed to be drawing 7 -7 at the break, with Dale’s score coming from full back Sam Lowthian converted by Will Sharratt. The second half began with Rossendale favourites and with the elements in their favour. However it was Wharfedale who ran in two tries one being converted, a result of some inept Rossendale tackling. Dale responded with a second from Lowthian and then following a chip over the top from his brother Tom Bedlow, it was Sam Bedlow who won the race to touch down. Rossendale were now on top , and when Sharratt muscled his way over the victory seemed theirs despite Sharratt's conversion attempt hitting the upright. With five minutes remaining however confusion reigned, as the match officials deemed Wharfedale were a point ahead, despite the score board saying the opposite. Nevertheless Sharratt used the wind to give Rossendale field position, and from the ensuing pressure Dale gained a penalty. A quick tap and go from ten meters out culminated in player of the year Matt Jackson touching down in the corner, to make sure it was to be a Rossendale victory. This has been another tremendous season for the Under 19’s and just reward for their efforts over the past three season’s. As with most successful teams there are those who provide invaluable support behind the scenes namely those on the replacements bench, Messers Fenner, Schofield, Hill, Dalton and Skelton have all played their part in the club’s most successful colts side ever.
