After a long drive on Sunday morning we found ourselves at Widnes RUFC for the first time.
With a squad of 18 we found ourselves with a challenge (especially when 1 person didn’t arrive until half time - CJ).
We started well with the first couple of challenges getting reactions from the opponents which should have been dealt with (but that’s my opinion only). The Widnes squad were strong and showed why they were 2-3 leagues above us with some strong running through the middle to score the first of the 8 tries on the day.
Rossendale played well for long periods but just couldn’t get out of first gear to really challenge the home team - squad numbers and distance were key factors to the result as we had to make two replacements before half time. CJ Bentley made a good impression when he arrived but the damage was done and a deserved victory to the side who according to the match program lost only one game last year in the semi finals of a cup.
Massive game for us next weekend (weather permitting) at home to West Park where scores need to be settled and a victory is required. Let’s put all this behind us and gear up for 22.12.19.
I’m looking forward to my tea and pineapple cheesecake afterwards.
