In perfect conditions and all looking resplendent in their new kit, the valley youngsters soon opened the scoring with opportunist tries from Nicholas Street and new captain and signing from Sedgley Park Tom Bedlow. Bedlow’s elusive running at center brought him a further try which he converted to open up a 17-0 lead. Rossendale made full use of the stiff breeze behind their backs and looked the stronger side physically. A good pre season training brought its dividends with further tries from Number 8 Paul Hughes and Street nipping over for his second late on. The scoring was completed with three conversions and a penalty coming from Bedlow and Will Sharratt.
This was a bright start for the team who boasted a full complement of seven replacements, as if to underline their strength in depth. Bigger tests will no doubt come with this weekends home game against Northwich being one of them.
