The home side started the stronger and pinned Dale back in their twenty two meter area. Rossendale held firm and showed great tenacity in defending their line with full back Jack Crowder leading the rear guard action with at least two try saving tackles. Despite their pressure and possession Eccleshall only had a solitary penalty to show for their efforts.
Having blown away the cobwebs of four weeks of inactivity due to the big freeze Rossendale began to threaten the homesides try line. Their big number 8 Paul Hughes had a couple of rampaging runs but the final pass or movement went astray.
The match never really flowed with too many stoppages and mistakes to blame, although it was another example of how close and competitive the league is turning out to be.
The long journey home enabled the valley lads reflect on what might have been, and with a break in the weather enable them to train outside in preparation for this Sundays clash with top of the table Burnage at Marl Pits ko 2pm. A victory is a must if the team is to have any chance of winning the league.
