Preston were always ahead in this contest and their outside centre proved a thorn in Dale’s side. His pace and guile saw him pounce on any chance given to him and expose Rossendale’s fragile defence. Despite having the bigger forwards Preston failed to dominate throughout, with Dale proving resourceful particularly with captain Will Sharratt outstanding at fly half. Outside him Jake Entwistle and Jack Bibby posed Dale’s attacking threat. Having to chase the game somewhat in the second half, with Sharratt scoring the visitors only try of the first half, any mistake by Rossendale seem to be seized upon by the homeside. Despite being behind throughout Dale battled to the end with Sharratt, Entwistle, and hooker Jamie Milton scoring the tries in the second half. Sharratt converting one. It maybe still early days, but Dale youngsters must work on their tackling and tactical awareness.
