Dale were quick out of the blocks and within 10 minutes were 12-0 up. They executed their game plan well with a score in the first minute. Good phase-play from the kick off lead to prop forward Daniel Rylance crashing over the line on one of his trademark ball carries. In form centre Tom Bedlow swiftly added a second as a result of good territory and some individual genius, skipping his way past the disheveled defence. However, the Aldwinians 15 made Rossendale work hard for their further scores, play became scrappy as a result of good counter rucking from the away side.
Further scores in the first half came from: Sharratt (2), Jack Bibby and a second from Tom Bedlow. The half ended with a 36-0 score line.
The second half saw more of the same from both sides. Attempted attacks being quashed by a scrambling Aldwinians defence. The games result was in no doubt and the replacements made kept Dale strong and in the ascendency. Tom Bedlow fed off the quick ball created by excellent breakdown turnovers from Leo Freschini and Joe Maher to add another two to his tally by stepping, what seemed like, the entire Aldwinians team. Another good bit of interplay and offloading released Daniel 'Derek' Schofield down the wing, where he touched down, leaving the would-be tacklers in his wake. The final and best try of the day came from young full back Sam Lowthion who was on the end of a set move and quick hands, originated from a scrum on halfway. Lowthion outpaced the two defenders he had been left to beat to dive over and seal the win.
Next Sunday Rossendale senior colts face their toughest test so far; a home fixture against an in form Manchester side in the Lancashire colts cup. K.O 2:00pm.
