Dale left a saturated valley for the trip to the south of Stockport in the hope of some drier weather. Alas the steady rain continued, but despite areas of standing water the enthusiastic referee deemed it fit to play and the contest commenced with Rossendale eager to gain the advantage. They did so after ten minutes when fullback, and junior colt, Sam Lowthian made a searing break through the defensive line he then passed the ball on to his supporting skipper Will Sharratt who in turn found the on rushing right winger Jack Crowder who gladly accepted the try scoring pass. Sharratt added the extra’s as the rain abated for a while. Rossendale continued to press the visitors and make the most of their possession. Prop forward Jordan Lord scored Dale’s next try in some style in the corner, aquaplaning through the water in doing so. The conversion by Sharratt was narrowly wide but his side were in the ascendency. It was Sharratt who touched down next to give Dale a 17-0 half time lead.
The second half saw Dale introduce a number of subs a number being junior colts, as their league match was a victim of the weather. Messer’s Sam Bedlow, Joe Andrew, Mason Wells, Jake Mann, and JR Maher all showed they could make the step up. It was left however to Sharratt to set up the only try of the second half. A well executed cross kick saw the home side’s defence out of position and allowed the inform Crowder to touch down wide out on the right. Another deserved victory for Rossendale, who once again adopted the correct mental approach in once again difficult conditions. Their defence once again was not breached for the seventh time this season.
This Sunday they have no game but resume action, weather permitting, next Sunday at home to Liverpool St Helens.
