Congratulations to Rossendale u18 senior colts on the second win of the season cheered on by a lively crowd at Home to a spirited Broughton Park side who managed to muster 11 willing players who came and give it a go. With many discussions taking place prior to kick off it was agreed by both parties to loan two players from Rossendale in both halves to make it more of a game for everyone involved.
The home side took control early on with some quick scores and quality defensive play which limited the visitors to minimul possession throughout the first period. Numerous changes throughout the game allowed all the replacements valuable game time and allowed the coaches to see how far everybody has progressed since last season. The game was played in good spirit by both teams with only one yellow card for the home team just before half time.
The second half saw the home side using the slope of the pitch to great advantage and powered over 7 times with blistering runs from Wright, Bentley and Johnson with Ashton and Farrow going over from close range. Zahidul found his own space and used his pace to secure both his tries from nothing. Assisted by the trusted boot of Hopkinson which saw his tally increase to 21 points from the opening 2 games, it was a job completed.
Every member of the 21 x strong squad deserved the applause at the end and agreed that there is still room for improvement going forward.
Tries;
Tyler Johnson x 2,
Zahidul Islam x 2,
Connor Bentley x 2,
Charlie Farrow,
Louis Ashton,
Lewis Wright.
Conversions x 6 (12 points) - Rowan Hopkinson
