Rossendale Rufc Senior Colts recorded a 15-5 win in the Raging Bull Colts League B opener at Marl Pits against Winnington Park. The visitors came with a full strength side and high optimism for the season. They started well with their big forwards making ground but Rossendale soon settled and started to take control of the game. Despite Dale creating several scoring opportunities the scores remained locked until the 30 minute mark when Dales inside centre created the space to cruise over leaving several defenders in his wake.
The home side continued to press on and 5 minutes into the second half Callum Donaldson opened his account for the team with a strong push for the line carrying several defenders over as he placed the ball down near the sticks. The conversion was slotted over and a short while later a penalty goal was added.
Dale remained the better side and showed the greater fitness and skill overall to maintain good pressure. However the amount of lost ball at the breakdowns and a lax in concentration allowed Park to strike back in the corner. There were no further scores and Dale could celebrate what was a hard fought victory despite it perhaps not being up to their own high standards.
