The first score went to Rossendale after a lengthy period of open play Tyler Johnson took possession of the ball on the opposition 5m line and his strong running along with great support from his forwards forced the ball over the Bury try line. Joe Bedlow gained the 2 points with his first ever conversion attempt for the side.
The game continued in a similar vane, both sides gaining their fair share of possession. Bury mounted some determined attacks but the Rossendale defence held firm with vigorous tackling all round the pitch. Minutes before half time, Nuri Stoner was able to rip the ball clear in a maul and drive for the line and despite some staunch defence from Bury, the ball was fed to Joe Bedlow who was able to ground the ball for Rossendale's second try. Joe held his nerve with the conversion to secure the full 7 points.
Bury re-started with renewed determination and were rewarded with a try with only minutes on the clock. They converted to close the gap on the home side to 7 points.Half time, and both sides took a well deserved rest after a non-stop first half.
There was little to separate the sides at this stage of the match and both teams worked hard to gain the upper hand. The scrums were fairly evenly contested with both sides relishing the new challenge of the larger scrum.
Bury achieved the next score from a Rossendale scrum on their own 5m line. The home side were unable to clear the ball and strong pressure from the visitors rewarded them with their second try. They were unlucky not to secure the conversion to level the match. Rowan Hopkinson was denied a late try being forced into touch inches from the try line.
A big congratulations to all the players from both sides, for a fantastic game of rugby, considering we are only 3 weeks in to the season and so many new laws of rugby to contend with at this age level.
