It was a well organised event & the U11s played matches against 4 sides; North Cheshire Barbarians, New Brighton, Fylde and Penrith.
Each match proved a tough encounter against well drilled and experienced opposition, the U11s competed well in all their games and were unfortunate not to come away with a victory.
The combination of Haig Howarth and Joe Bedlow set up the sides only try of the tournament after Joe had made good ground with a determined run and although held up in a tackle Haig was on hand to power the pair over the line to score.
All of the matches required staunch defence from the U11s and it is testament to their resilience that in the final game of the tournament against New Brighton, arguably the strongest side in the event, they conceded only two try's. They were very unlucky not to get a try themselves in this match when a penalty gave Rowen Hopkinson the opportunity to release Ieuan Dwyfor-Jones on a powerful run covering half the pitch before he was tackled, however the move continued with Josh Beeken winning the ball at the breakdown only to be bundled into touch by a desperate last ditch defence.
Well done to all the Rossendale U11s: Nathan Waddington, Oliver Leah, Jack Flanagan, Noah Taylor, Joe Bedlow, Josh Beeken, Jack Whittaker, Elliott Newell, Ieuan Dwyfor-Jones, Haig Howarth, Dan Dunham, Sam Ashworth and Rowan Hopkinson.
Mention must go also to the mother's who gave up breakfast in bed & a lie in to support their youngsters.
