After 8 weeks of assorted pre-season training it was great to see the Team together for a hurriedly arranged(?!) match against relatively new club Garstang. The hangovers from the England game the night before could be felt in the parents' heads but the boys were bouncing in warm-up and ready to go. Unfortunately Coach Grady couldn't be present as he was keeping world peace in Manchester, or something, but he'd given the boys a special message of Good Luck on the match ball.
Tentative, rusty, overawed by the opposition - not a bit of it. Hard tackling, line speed and attacking running were all to the fore with a level of belief which was great to see. The first 10 minute game went our way with a 1-0 scoreline and lots to be positive about. The next, after a change of personnel, went the same way with a Rossendale mini-victory. The Garstang team rallied late in the fixture and put a few tries down themselves as we switched off a bit. Both teams left the pitch happy as neither set of parents could count properly and each believed they had won..! But please keep bringing them down, great support for the team
Man of the Match went to Sam; Tackle Hero was Oscar (both new in the squad this autumn) and selfless work earned Marcus Try of the Match for his two touch downs. Really well done to all the lads though - something we can really build on with the next few matches - KEEP IT UP.
