U11's

With a squad depleted by holiday, injury, cub and scout duties and last minute sickness only nine of the U11's made the trip to play Fylde who had invited us over mid-week. Fylde is a big club with a rich history and it looked a hard task to roll over committed hosts with no subs.

However, hands looked good, running lines looked sharp and the nine seemed up for it in warm-up before a short and important break to observe Remembrance Sunday with the other teams.

As if spurred on by the deeds of their predecessors the boys ran out and fought, harried and pushed the Fylde team back applying wave after wave of pressure and keeping their shape in attack and defence. This was rewarded by a try for Henry (captain for the day) in the corner following great team play at the rucks before. Rory added a second for Rossy just five minutes later after Fylde had score their own try but failed to ground the ball for a second touch down. Turning round for the second period Patrick, who was proving a proper handful all morning, scored a third and the ever working Spencer made it a deserved four.

After a break Fylde pulled things together better and scored themselves but our defence held firm through the impressive interventions of Cameron and Marcus. Josh and Sam both took knocks in the attritional rucking and mauling but brushed themselves down to go again and keep the team continuity where Sebastian was also beginning to make ground with his mazy running. About the only mistake Rossy made was in the third quarter where our handling let us down to miss a three-to-one overlap...where the referee was the one!

Running out winners by four tries to two the boys received a thoroughly deserved ovation from the parents.

Two big road trips have brought the team two overall victories against good opposition and it is great to see individual and collective confidence beginning to grow. Tackle Hero was Cameron; Try of the Match scored by Henry for the team and, Star Player was Josh, Seb, Cam, Marco, Rory, Patrick, Spence, Henry and Sam - all nine!

Well done boys. Let's go again next week. Leigh away...watch the website folks.
