With the curse of the winter temporarily suspended a 13 strong U11 team ran out for the first time since November 8th (come on RFU let us play in the good weather in September - it's a no-brainer) on a home pitch doing its best to shrug off the rain, snow and frost. After four sessions of astroturf training with no contact how would the team go?
Well, the answer soon came...superbly to a man against a spirited Bury team who had proved difficult opposition last year.
The passing game and running lines the artificial surface has cultivated in the boys carried on with great attacking into gaps and no loss of the physicality from before the enforced break. All morning Bury weren't allowed to settle and were forced to move from a handling and rucking game into a kicking game which brought little reward either.
The boys stuck at their task all through all four quarters and won each convincingly. Some of the team had by far their best games in a Rossy shirt, some their best for a while and there was no sign of rust from those who hadn't been able to get to training all the time.
First quarter tries:
Ryan, Seb, Ryan
Second Quarter
Shaun, Matthew, Patrick, (Bury), Patrick
Third Quarter
Dominic, Rory, Oscar, Ryan, (Bury)
Fourth Quarter
Ryan, Seb, (Bury), Matthew, Spencer, Dominic, Thomas, Shaun
Which all add up to 18 tries to 3 - as is the way we have had variations of 16-2 and 17-3 as well...hey ho.
STAR PLAYER - Henry (with a few others at his heels); TACKLE HERO - Rory (other candidates queuing up too); TRIES of the MATCH - Dominic and Thomas (but how do you choose?)
Nevertheless a great morning from the boys. Well done and deserved applause from the parents. Thanks for your support and sticking with it. Away at Blackburn next week.
