Rossendale Under 11s start with a bang !!

Summer Training and hard work pays off

After a belated start to the season due to teams crying off against us, we managed to, at the last minute rearrange a fixture at Duckinfield.
The under 11’s have worked really hard through summer with a lot of extra training and were really relishing the opportunity to finally play.
Travelling with three players out through injury or illness the Rossendale boys were going to find it difficult against a well organised Duckinfield side which had a strong looking side.
The early exchanges were played in a competitive manor as both sides tried to gain the upper hand. It took some great forward effort but finally Rossendale broke the solid Duckinfield defence and Captain for the day Shaun Smallridge barged over to score. The try was then converted by Oliver Molloy.
Rossendale then gained momentum and from a scrum George Allen broke to the narrow side to feed Jude Ferrie to score. The conversion was missed.
The second half brought a fight back from Duckinfield and resolute tackling kept them out. The Rossendale pack secured a ball deep into the Duckinfield half of the field and fed Oliver Molloy who crashed through to score.
With a comfortable lead of 17 points Rossendale took their eye off the game to let Duckinfield in for two soft converted tries.
Rossendale boys then rallied around with defeat looking a strong possibility took the game to Duckinfield and really put pressure on the try line.
But Duckinfield defended well and Rossendale had ground out a hard fought win.
Congratulation to the lads for this win as it was a real team effort to the end.
Man of the match awards were shared between George Allen for his runs from the base of the scrum and Derek Bulling for his high work rate and strong running with the ball.
