The season ending finale for the Rossendale U8s involved a short trip to the Rochdale Minis Festival. This would be our last matches with the much loved Tag Belts and Tags...
Rossendale U8s had 5 matches scheduled -
Chester D
Chester C
Leigh B
Rochdale Tetleys
Bury B
6 tag limit leading to a turnover and 7 minutes each way format was adopted for the day.
The following squad made the trip for the early start at 10am.
Ethan, Feddie, George, Henry, Rory, Theo, Thomas, and new recruit Kaine
Simon (Theos Dad) did a great job as team scorer for the day and for once I can actually qoute some scores with relative accuracy...
Chester D - 4 all Draw
Chester C - Lost 4 / 3
Leigh B - Lost 5 / 3
Rochdale Tetleys - Lost 5 / 3
Bury B - Won 6 / 5
A mixed bag of results which didn't necessarily reflect the effort put in by the lads - we were unlucky not to draw with Chester C with a last gasp try denying us in that match. Chester are clearly a very well supported and organised club - four U8 teams on show with plenty of supporting coaches shows the strength and depth available.
During the Leigh match we slipped back to our old habit of bunching up and everyone chasing the ball - something to be worked on over the summer.
With Rochdale we succumbed to the post lunch slow down - its always much harder to get back into the swing and get focused after lunch and a long break.
Against Bury we found the groove of earlier in the day and ran some great lines to pop over some fantastic tries. Maybe the thought of getting over the line and losing the tag belts once and for all spurred us on - was great to sign off with a win.
Player of the week was Freddie - Great solid work from Freddie this week, getting down to work on Tuesday night no fuss and coupled with a workman like performance in the matches keeping the Rossendale U8 machine going forward.
Well done everyone - another season complete and now into the brave new world of Contact in September.
