A rare sunny morning saw Rossendale U10s host Aspull U10s for a joint training game at Marl Pits on Sunday.
Despite having several players playing their first ever game, Rossendale put on a gutsy performance against in what was a closer match than the score suggests.
Aspull won the toss, kicked off, and went on to score in the first minute. Not to be put down though, Rossendale immediately struck back with a weaving run from Nick to score in the 2nd minute.
The remainder of the half saw some good running and passing as well as spirited defence from both sides. Aspull scored again in the 8th minute.
Half time score 5 - 10
The second half was more of the same, but I think the warm conditions (and a blister on Isaac's heel!) saw Rossendale tire, giving Aspull the advantage. Just a solitary try from Henry for Rossendale in the second half.
Full time 10 - 30
There were so many positives to take from the game; the team really started to play as a team, with plenty of solid tackling, good support and handling and an awesome scrum which game the Aspull pack problems right to the end. Roll on Bolton next week!
Player of the Match (awarded by Martin, Aspull Coach): Henry W.
