Warm at last!
Thanks to the club we managed to attain a game against Widness having found the Colne and Nelson game was off.
Widness had a good side, a strong side and from the kick off, from the side lines, it was really evident that it was going to be a challenge not to have Widness put on a walk over victory…, comparing the defensive lines and structure in the breakdowns we looked to be in trouble. Widness broke early with the first try of the game and it was looking like we were in for a hammering.
As the quarters drew out Rossendale showed better strength in defence and seemed to grab a try or two for each try scored by Widness and the game was pretty level all the way through. In the end I believe the score was a draw, possibly Widness edged the game by a try – however on the day it was to and fro action, lots of great tackles when it really counted by Kian, Joe, Joey and Jamie on some of the big lads from the Widness team. Good Job Guys!
All in all it was a physically tough game and the heat of the day didn’t help in the first quarter running around on a big pitch and playing a very strong, structured team. To come away with a close run game was really positive and there were some great individual and team pieces in the games.
It may have just been the chocolate or a bit of rust forming from missing the Easter Sunday training session but we have looked stronger and found our pace and form in games throughout the year which were better performances on the day, but onwards and upwards. We have positives to take from the game and some areas to work on.
Thanks to all parents making the trek across the M60 to Widness for the rescheduled game – we appreciate your commitment and support.
