Sunday saw the best performance of the season from the U10s as they hosted Burnley at Marl Pits. Burnley got off to an early lead with a try in the first few minutes, but Rossendale quickly levelled the score with a try from Kyle Entwistle. Soon afterwards, a try by Nick Lewis left the first half score at 10 – 10, reflecting the even match of the teams and the good standard of rugby on display.
The second half started with more of the same from both sides; good running, neat passing and solid tackling, but Rossendale’s dominant pack started to give them the edge and ‘Dale grabbed a couple more tries scored by Nick Lewis and Luke Comer. A mistake in the last 5 minutes, where the ball “squirted out†from a maul, was pounced upon by Burnley and they darted down the wing for a try. A tense couple of minutes ensued for the Rossendale, as Burnley applied the pressure, but the solid defence held firm and the game finished 20 – 15.
All of the lads deserve loads of credit for the way they played, not least after the recent run of defeats. The basics were (nearly) all there; running, passing, communication, tackling, rucking and mauling. It was hard to single out a star player, but for his contribution to the dominant front row, good support play throughout and even a try, the Man of the Match was Luke Comer.
