Both sides battled hard and there was not much between them as the defences were on top. It was however Dale’s lack of discipline that came back to haunt them again. With half time approaching Dale found themselves back down to 14 again following a second yellow card. Harrogate made the numerical advantage work and forced their way over for a second try. That was converted and at half time the visitors led 0-14.

Dale supporters were hoping this would be the springboard for a comeback. Dale pressed hard for a second try but were kept at bay around the try line by a steadfast defence. Despite the pressure the visitors managed to break free and make their way up field. They scored what proved to be a match winning try following another rolling maul. They forced their way over the line, the referee was unsure of the grounding, but after consulting his assistant the try was awarded. The conversion was successful and they extended their lead to 7-21.
There was still time for Dale to claw their way back in the game and they scored a second try from Sam Bedlow who crashed over from 5 metres. Rogers kicked the extras 14-21.
The clock was ticking down and time was running out. Dale were unable to breakdown the visitor’s defence and the game came to a conclusion with Harrogate in possession on the half way line.
Final score 14-21.
