Rossendale were first on the board with a try from Fraser Lindsay off turn over ball, a neat pick up by James Bramhall and with Curtis Strong coming into the line from full back the debutant was given his chance.
Hull struck a penalty and with Steve Nutt replying in kind it was all square 8-8 at the interval.
From the restart Hull took the lead with a try from a catch and drive but again Rossendale levelled matters for a second time with a try from Nick Flynn also from the catch and drive.
Hull regained the lead for a second time with a try but Rossendale came back again as Ryan McKibbin broke from the restart to take play into the Hull'22' from where, after some solid pick and drive play, Bramhall picked up to allow Nutt to slip in under the posts, the conversion also by the outside half putting the east Lancashire side in front once again.
With little to choose between two well matched sides Hull edged ahead for a third time with a penalty only for Nutt to retrieve the situation with a second penalty before Jordan Lord at last sewed the match up with a try in the closing minutes, a miss touch from Hull run back by McKibbin and following some driving play Dominic Moon picked up to put Lord over for what proved to be the winner, Nutt adding the conversion.
