Not the best of days for Rossendale and a game they would better do to forget and file away, especially with a play-off at home to Sheffield who finished second in N3M this coming Saturday.
Injuries to James Bramhall, Nick Flynn and Dominic Moon plus a red card for Ryan McKibbin certainly did not help although Bramhall and Flynn are expected to be available with Moon on the probable list. As for McKibbin, the club has asked for a hearing as soon as possible so they know where they are preparation wise.
A drive from a penalty line out and good handling by Bramhall, Steve Nutt and a break by Jack Ward, the centre slipping a neat inside ball to the supporting Fraser Lindsay got the winger over for the opening try, Nutt adding the conversion.
Wirral hit back with tries from Rob Pearl and Tom Parry both converted by James Annetts to close the half 14-7 ahead.
With Rossendale having to re-organise the home side took full advantage with Keith Mahon going for for two, again both converted by Annetts but Rossendale came back again and with George Peel going over from the back of a drive to the line by the pack, the visitors posted a second, Nutt again on hand with the extras.
Unfortunately further tries for Wirral from Ali Baker and Mark Williams and with Annetts making it six conversions from six the home side sealed the win.
