With the sunshine out at Marl Pits, Dale were in the mood to play some fast open rugby and were soon out of sight with a bonus point in the bag. Tries from Matt Mckenzie, Anthony Bingham, Roger Dennison and Leyton Taylor with 4 James Bramhall conversions before half time set the valley side up to play some more expansive rugby in the second.
Beverley however were very tenacious throughout and scored some fine tries themselves, but with the Dale pack dominant and the backs far more creative they struggled to sustain any amount of pressure in the Dale half. Further tries from Paddy pole, Tom Albinson, a second from Leyton Taylor and a farewell try from the departing Dave Wood put the game out of reach along with another 2 Bramhall conversions and penalty goal.
It was fitting that Dave Wood scored the last try at Marl Pits this year along with a well taken conversion. Woody has been a fantastic player and Head Coach at Rossendale and his presence both on and off the pitch will be sorely missed.
Dale travel to Sandal next week knowing that if Chester slip up away to Birkenhead Park then they have a excellent chance of making the playoffs.
