Hull of course have the little matter of a promotion play-off to content with probably away at Peterborough but there was scant evidence that minds were elsewhere.
Hull opened with a penalty from Stephen Johnson but Rossendale replied from a a catch and drive, Ryan McKibbin standing out at scrum half forcing his way over from close range.
Lewis Allen added the conversion but tries for Hull from Michael Joblin and Mike Adlard, converted by Johnson afforded a 7-15 lead although a penalty from Allen closed the half with the visitors 10-15 ahead.
A second penalty from Allen closed the gap further until a try by Liam Ragarsall converted by Johnson increased the advantage once again.
Allen chipped the lead away with a third penalty but tries from Stephen Hihata and Tomati Tomuti both converted by Johnson looked to have pulled Hull well clear.
Rossendale were having none of it as from a quick tap by James Bramhall and a forward drive, Jordan Lord was held up on the line but with the ball squeezed out a neat pass from Bramhall to Leon Simpson gave the winger the opportunity to cross for a try .
Rossendale came again, a break by Alex Ward finding McKibbin coming on the inside to take the scoring pass. Allen slotted the conversion, before a late penalty from Johnson sealed the win for the visitors.
