After suffering a one point defeat away at Hartlepool the week before Rossendale faced the challenge of a side to whom they lost home and away last season with some trepidation.
Playing in atrocious conditions Rossendale began with much more commitment than their Yorkshire rivals. Rossendale completely dominated up front and this produced four first half tries two by powerhouse prop Ian Marshall
One by talented scrum half Jamie Albinson and one from rejuvenated wing Ali Harper.
Despite playing against the elements in the second half Rossendale continued to dominate up front and the defence held firm against some strong Sandal running.
Further tries came from Luton Taylor and young debutant Mike Bell. Sandal’s only score was a penalty and Rossendale finished worthy winners and a try bonus point.
The foundation for this win was the power and commitment of the forwards. Number eight Danny Collins was back to his rampaging best. In the engine room player coach Tim Fourie and young Judd Bamford stuck to their
Task well and it was good to see seasoned campaigner Paddy Pole take the field for the last twenty minutes.
