Rossendale beat the league leaders on their home turf...

Rossendale travelled to Chester last weekend with confidence high following two good wins against Morley and Lymm.

And this good form continued as they ran out winners in what was an entertaining game.

Rossendale set off at a cracking pace with both forwards and backs linking well and pressing Chester back in their own 22.

Rossendale also provided a statement of intent to play running rugby by electing to kick for position on two occasions when three points were on offer.

Early tries followed for Danny Harrison and Paddy Pole to give Rossendale a 15-0 lead.

Chester then hit back with two tries of their own but a further pushover try from the Rossendale forwards gave their side a two-point lead at half-time.

The second half started with Rossendale under some pressure, and rather against the run of play, Tom Albinson gratefully accepted a pass from the Chester wing to score in the corner.

This score seemed to knock the stuffing out of the home side and Rossendale continued to dominate with the pack in complete control.

They scored another pushover try to give Rossendale a well deserved win and a try bonus point.

To beat the league leaders on their own soil and in emphatic style was a tremendous achievement for Rossendale.

Fly-half Steve Nutt orchestrated play with some excellent tactical kicking and Paddy Pole and Tim Fourie gave outstanding performances in a Rossendale pack that provided the platform for a well earned win.

Rossendale will hope to take this form into another tough encounter against Bradford and Bingley on Saturday at Marl Pits (3pm).
