They were also looking to build some momentum in anticipation of a playoff appearance, ending the season on a high.
Immediately Dale looked threatening and had an early shot at goal, narrowly missing from the boot of Steve Nutt, however the intent was there. They followed up with 2 successive scores through winger Danny Harrison and scrum half Jamie Albinson both converted. The early lead was reduced when Beverley centre Junior Tupai ghosted through the Dale defence from short range. The momentum once again switched back to the home side and as a result Dan Collins powered over from short range. Nutt Converted. Beverley finished the half on top, following a yellow card for Dale's Tom Albinson, their pacey winger finished a good backs move off. The half ended 21-10.
The second half was an idea Beverley 40 minutes. The play was scrappy and played into the away teams hands. Dale had to contend with the wind and the slope against them and it told. They were unable to capitalise like Beverley did in the first half and as a result were on the back foot. The usually solid defence was broken down on numerous occasions as Dale were unable to escape their half. Beverley scored twice with one converted to go into the lead with 15 to go. On the 70 minute mark a collapsed scrum went sour with one of the Beverley front row sustaining a serious neck injury. The game, as a result, was postponed until an air ambulance could move the player, although it was good news to hear later that Alex Ogilvie was OK and released from hospital later.
When the game finally resumed Dale thought they had sealed the close encounter through a Steve Nutt penalty to put them 24-22 up with 5 to go. However Beverley were not be denied and struck back with a penalty of their own before the final whistle went to steal the game. Final score 24-25.
Dale have a lot of thinking to do during the week to amend the mistakes before their final league game of the season away at Waterloo.
