The weather may have been foul but having won just one of their
previous six games Rossendale will be delighted that they have
returned to winning ways with a 15-6 win at home to Bradford and
Bingley, a result that secures the side in 4th place and keeps
hopes of a play-off spot still alive.
With just Steve Nutt still sidelined the Marl Pits outfit were
able to turn out an almost full strength line up and it told as
there was far more cohesion within the backline and solid
control in the pack for what turned out to be in the dreadful
conditions a veritable 'arm wrestle'.
With the 'Bees' penalised for coming in at the side James
Bramhall drew 'first blood' with a penalty. And it was Bramhall
again attacking the opposition line following a quick tap
penalty before setting Leyton Taylor free with the most
delightful of off-loads for the prop to go in for the opening
try, the outside half also adding the conversion for 10-0 at
half time.
In the second half Tom Albinson crossed for a second after the
pack had turned over a Bradford defensive scrum and Jamie
Albinson had shipped out the perfect pass to the centre.
In the final half hour Bradford came more into the game and
attacked the Rossendale line but had to be content with two
penalties after strong defence by the home side had kept them
out.
