Not the start they were expecting but losing two key players
Roger Dennison and James Bramhall injured shortly after the
interval, necessitating a reshuffle in the back line, certainly
diminished the Lancashire side's chances of winning this match.
In the end perhaps a draw plus the bonus try point was a fair
result.
Newcomers to N3N Wirral were first on the score sheet with a try
from Craig Harvey. Rossendale replied with a penalty from James
Bramhall and took the lead with a try from Ryan McGibbon going
over from a catch and drive, McGibbon repeating the process to
give the visitors a 5-13 lead going in at half time.
In the second half Tom Albinson set up position taking the
'crash ball' from the set piece and with Sam Greenwood up in
support the big forward forced his way over, Bramhall adding the
extras.
Wirral hit back with a try from Keith Mahon converted by Harvey
who slotted a penalty for 15-20. McGibbon went over for his
third and the bonus point, again from a catch and drive but a
try from James Annetts converted by Harvey plus a penalty with
15 minutes remaining levelled matters at 25-25.
