The relief palpable around Marl Pits as Rossendale recorded
their first win of the season beating Huddersfield YMCA 38-10
and with veteran Tim Fourie entering the fray on the half hour
to provide a point of focus, the home side ran in a total of six
tries.
The visitors were first on the board with a penalty but straight
from the restart Roger Dennison crossed for the opening try
after the pack had driven forward and the ball swung wide. Steve
Nutt added the conversion and with the Rossendale pack in
control and with the backs playing on the 'front foot' Anthony
Bingham went in for the second off a quick tap by Jamie Albinson
and a kick chase off the boot of Nutt.
Bingham brought up the third from a mid-field scrum and a break
by Ryan McKibbin for 17-3 at the interval.
Two penalties from Nutt increased the advantage before Paddy
Pole went in for the bonus score following a line out and 30
metre drive by the pack. McKibbin made it five from a catch and
drive and with Albinson hacking on a lose ball,Tom Bedlow
crossed for the sixth.
