Although they have players returning from injury this
was always going to be a crucial game for the home side to see
if they had really turned a corner after a less than auspicious
start to the season. Although both sides crossed for four tries
the home side were in control for most of the game and although
there is still some way to go, the omens are now good as the
season enters its second quarter.
Danny Collins crossed for the first try almost from the kick
off, up in support of a break by Leyton Taylor and Paddy Pole.
Steve Nutt slotted the conversion with a penalty affording a
10-0 lead. Lymm hit back with a try from Cormack Nolan converted
by the winger but a second penalty from Nutt followed by a try
from Tom Albinson spying a gap after a series of drives and
quick recycling had the visitors on the back foot. Nutt added
the conversion to close the half with Rossendale 20-7 ahead.
In the second period newcomer George Peel in only his second
start after promotion from the colts crossed for the third after
the ball had been picked up from a Lymm knock on. However Lymm
came back again with tries from Nolan and Rowley both converted
by Nolan to close the gap to 25-21.
With Rossendale now pushing hard to seal the win Tom Albinson
broke clear from 30 metres and with Jamie Albinson in support on
the inside, the scrum half scampered over for the bonus score,
Nutt again successful with the extras.
Lymm were not finished and went in for a bonus try from Dugdale
converted by Nolan
