Back to approaching something like full strength Rossendale
bounced back after last week's defeat with a well orchestrated
second half performance to beat high flying Waterloo 24-16.
It did not look likely in the first half as the home side were
yet again slow to start and were 0-13 at the interval through
two penalties from Liam Reeve and a try by Freeman Payne, the
centre capitalising on good ball off the top of the line out,
Reeve adding the conversion.
It could have been worse as Waterloo with their tails up at this
stage could have been further ahead but squandered a number of
other chances.
A penalty from Reeve early in the second half extended the
visitors lead further but from then on with the more powerful
Rossendale pack beginning to take some control the fight back
began.
A break by Tom Albinson and some good recycling brought a try
for Anthony Bingham with the wingman adding a second picking up
in open play for a scintillating individual effort. Steve Nutt
added the conversion. Now it was the home side with their 'tails
up'
A crash ball by Tom Albinson held up within five metres from the
line gave Paddy Pole the opportunity to pick up and drive over
for a third to give his side the lead for the first time, Nutt
adding the extras.
Jamie Albinson brought up the bonus score with the final try
after pressure on a Waterloo scrum turned the ball over.
