Rossendale gave themselves an outside chance of a top four finish following a 7-31 win away at Waterloo.
The East Lancashire side are now just four points adrift of the Merseysiders and if they can take maximum points at home to
Wirral this coming Saturday and Waterloo come away from Cleckheaton with nothing the Marl Pits outfit will finish fourth.
A break by Tom Albinson opened the way for Ryan McKibbin to go in for the opening try, Steve Nutt slotting the conversion.
A grubber through the defence picked up by Anthony Bingham and quick recycling brought up the second for the ever alert Danny
Collins, Nutt again on hand with the conversion for 0-14 at the interval.
In the second period Waterloo pulled a try back through James O'Brien converted by Liam Reeve but from there on it was all Rossendale with further tries from Tom Albinson off an interception of a promising Waterloo attack, George Peel again first their chasing a grubber slid through by Nutt and with McKibbin forcing a turn over, Anthony Bingham was on hand to jog in for the fifth.
