For the second time this season the U14's made the short trip to Whitefield and home of Sedgley Park. Unlike the September visit this was the final match in the Lancashire Cup group stages...not a friendly.
That difference showed. The hosts hit the ground at full speed and rocked the Rossy boys back on their heels, scoring a well worked try before an exchange of penalties to lead 10-3.
This Rossendale team has learned a lot about itself though this year from the dark days of some of the autumn performances hit by injuries everywhere and, as coaches, we had to stand back and let them figure it out. The second half saw the intensity increase and we started to score with strong running and excellent support play. The woeful rucks of the first half stopped and the boys started to string passes together in mid field opening the Sedgley defence to score and establish the platform for the win 10 - 22. The relief was palpable but a win's a win and in the end it was taken relatively comfortably.
Thanks to parents and supporters from both teams for respecting the officials and players and ensuring the boys had a thoroughly enjoyable rugby match.
