Rossendale travelled to Broughton Park for game day 2 in the Lancashire Cup in what turned out to be glorious day weather wise for mid September.
The scoreline may suggest that this was a comfortable victory for the visitors but it was anything but that, the match was a fiercely contested affair with both teams giving their all.
Broughton Park started the quicker of the two sides forcing Rossendale into defensive action from the off and dominating the ball for the first 5 minutes of the game, finally crossing the line to give the home side a 5-0 lead.
This sparked Rossendale into life who finally managed to get things moving on the offensive side of the ball probing for gaps through the middle and trying to make big yards wide out on the wings. Rowan evened the scores up before Callum dotted Camron’s good work through the middle. Rowan added another try and Harry showed the Broughton Park defenders a clean pair of heels as he streaked away down the sidelines.
Half time score Broughton Park 5 – Rossendale 20
The second half started in similar fashion to the first with Broughton Park dominating possesion, this time Rossendale managed to withstand the onslaught and keep the home side out. As Rossendale started to build momentum and grow into the second half Rowan managed to find space out left and extend the Rossendale advantage.
Broughton Park added another score of their of own through a clever kick and chase as the Rossendale defence was stepping up to close down the space.
Rowan rounded off the scoring by powering over the line giving a final score of Broughton Park 10 – Rossendale 30
