Bailey Dad (Chris) - Match report Under 13s versus Trafford MV

With half-term upon us some of team were away. On the pitch before kick off both teams looked evenly matched 12 aside, Trafford probably inched it in the height department. Though once on the pitch the same old problems arose.

In the first half the U13's fought hard with Bailey, Ethan F, George C, Joey and Tommy breaking forward carrying the ball and gaining plenty of ground mainly in their own half, never really threatening theTrafford try line, support was a little laboured at times but once in the ruck the lads did brilliantly, Kyle, Fraser, George Y, James and Ollie all getting stuck in and not losing out, support from Finn and Lucas just out of a ruck ready to pounce if Trafford broke through. Attack was good but defence was another story.

When Trafford had the ball they run hard, passing, gaining ground and momentum and easily found gaps in our defensive line.

So at half-time the Stags were 4-0 down, a little motivation from coach Tim giving them a few home truths to where things were going wrong, Teamwork, Discipline, Tackling, but giving them plenty of positives to go into the second half.

The second half started and the U13's seem to have upped their work rate, working hard, gaining ground and playing some really good rugby, everybody in the Stags team put their bodies on the line some great tackles from Kyle, Fraser, Joey and Finn everyone getting in the mix, challenging for everything, Ollie coming off worse in one of the tackles and hurting his leg, after losing Tommy in the first half we were down to 10, Sue was kept on her toes. This just seemed to spur the remaining players on, moving their way closer to the Trafford try line 3, 4, 5 phases,on and on, ball to hand, break forward, tackled, ruck over, move the ball out and forward. Just as they are taught in training. The under 13's were encamped in the Trafford 10 metres area for over 5 minutes they just couldn't quite get it over the line and the only time it was cleared was when it was kicked out by Trafford from behind their own try line. The lads were growing in strength digging away at the Trafford defensive line fighting for every metre pushing forward. By this time the under 15's who had been training on the adjacent pitch had come over to cheer on their younger counterparts. 10 metres from try-line, Kyle driving forward brought to ground, James and George Y ruck over, Fraser to the loose ball pass to Bailey who breaks through the gap and races to the try line. TRY. A great team effort everybody involved in the build up to the try. But by this time it was a little too late, tired legs and battered bodies took its toll.

Trafford did get another two tries late on and to add to the early effort in the second half the game coming to an end with the U13s losing 7-1. (I thought it was 8-1, but Bailey said 7) But after their second half efforts the U13's can hold their heads up high, WELL DONE ALL, and who knows had it not been for the half term and some of our more experienced team members being available it might have been a different game altogether.

Thank you to all coaches Tim and Dave, Dave for reffing, Sue Brooks first aider, thanks to the parents for their support and the U15's, and to Trafford MV for a great game of rugby.
